Script Analysis: The Alleyway

The film starts with a couple walking down the street, and they get mugged. The boyfriend is stabbed and the woman runs away, which is dramatic because they were just enjoying some fresh air when this tragic event suddenly popped up. This is a "terrific scene" because it's why the killer goes after her in the first place and why she's so terrified throughout the film. The "memorable scene" ending the film is the killer getting what he wants, and the girl getting what she doesn't deserve. The main character (Rachel) is in a terrified position where she didn't know what she was getting into by going out with the guy (Miles) or opening the door to the killer. The main character (Rachel) is introduced as a survivor, but one that isn't finished with her troubles yet. The audience discovers that the killer is going after her when she sees a suspicious car she has never seen across the street with a man in it looking at her. I think I can keep things to a minimum by getting rid of unnecessary dialogue and making sure the plot doesn't drag on. I can try to keep all the things that are necessary for understanding and moving the story along.

The girl flees the scene screaming. The man turns around and stares at her as she runs away. The girl walks briskly home.
Int. - House
The girl walks inside. She sits down and finds a picture of her boyfriend in a drawer. She decides that instead of letting it go, she would hunt the killer down. She hears a knock and tentatively opens the front door. A man in dark clothes (the killer) turns around and walks inside, smiling. The girl screams, shuts the door, and runs upstairs. She hurries into a closet, and locks the door. The killer picks the lock and, just as he opens the door and knocks her out, her boyfriend comes up behind him and slams his head into the wall. The girl's eyes are just closing as he arrives.

The girl wakes up and can't believe her boyfriend is alive. She says thank you. He says no problem. She asks what happened to him, and he says he was rushed to the ER by a witness. She asks what happened to the killer and he says he took care of him. Exhausted, she sits down, looks at the picture of her boyfriend, and starts to fall asleep.
Int. - Basement
The girl wakes up from a dream and opens her eyes to stare at a picture of her boyfriend. She asks,"What happened?" The killer faces her and says,"You fell asleep." She asks what he wants with her, and he answers that he doesn't want her to tell anyone anything about what she saw. "I can't risk that," he says as he puts a gun to her head. "Good Night."

Film Noir Characteristics: Paranoia-schizophrenia-dream- soft edges- surreal when going out of dream
High contrast lighting-shadows, and fast fall-off
Expressionistic sets- picture in the drawer and camera in the plant show the connection and bring the feeling of revenge, object transition to reality
Entrapment- trapped in the basement- spotlight on her, close-ups, POV

"Lost Cause"- Jasmine E.
This sounds like an interesting story about how someone finally makes it out of that dark place, but gets sucked back in again. I don't think this adds enough Film Noir into the story because all I see is fragility and entrapment within the boy. I think these are really important characteristics though because it really creates texture for the character and it shows a lot about his past and how he's changed. The story seems to flow really well becaus eit starts with a little look at his daily life, then it goes to the girl calling, which turns the whole story around, andthen it ends in a climactic eventI like the closing shot though because it shows the significance of the title. I think there's a really great story and message behind this, so it should turn out really great. I think the complications for this piece may be finding all of the people to surround the fight. Also, it's difficult to get a classroom full of people. Maybe yoou could just get a few people in one spot of the classroom and only show that spot so it seems like the classroom is full.

I think this shows great examples of entrapment because of when the man is confined. I think this story really captures the whole"stalker" concept, but its interesting how its the women instead. I think the opening shots really set the main idea of "womanizing" in motion. I like how the man seems innocent, but then it slowly builds up to revealing his guilt. I think this story shows femme fatale, which really adds quality to the piece. Challenges may be finding a restaurant that will allow you to film and use violence. Also, it's not so great when a weapon is used, so you may want to use a fake one. Other than that, the story seems relatively flawless.
